Sprague Lake Fishery Rehabilitation in 2007
The Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife (WDFW) treated 1,860 water acres of Sprague Lake on October 9th and 10th, 2007, with rotenone to remove all fish so it can be restocked to revitalize the fishery.

The need to revitalize the Sprague Lake fishery was evident in low angler use and poor catch rates, unbalanced game fish populations (heavy to predator fish), increasing carp and tench populations, and poor return on hatchery trout stocking investments.

WDFW, like other management agencies, has used rotenone to rehabilitate lakes for more than 50 years. As a naturally occurring substance derived from roots of tropical plants, rotenone has been tested extensively and found to present no significant health risk to people, pets, livestock, or wildlife.

The last time Sprague Lake was rehabilitated was in 1985, which created a productive fishery for almost 20 years.
